Background: AF (air flotation: DAF or CAF) units are used for waste water treatments in biodiesel processing plants. The oily sludge fat from AF is a major issue to biodiesel industry. When free fatty acid (FFA) levels are high in oil/fat raw materials for biodiesel process, pre-treatment is needed to remove the free fatty acids. The soap stock with high FFA is also an issue to biodiesel plants. The AF sludge fat or soap stock is the mixture of triglycerides and free fatty acids at about 0.3-3:1. The processing conditions for converting triglycerides or free fatty acids into biodiesel are different. The seperation of triglycerides and free fatty acids is expensive.
New Process: Our patented process has provided a good solution for the above AF sludge fat and soap stock to be converted into a non-oily and free-flowable solid fat product, which adds significant value as a feed ingredient for animals. The solid fat product can withstand warm temperature and pelletting processes. The solid fat has almost the same value as biodiesel. The processing cost for solid fat is much lower than its biodiesel. Raw materials may be from vegetable or animal sources. Product samples are available.
When a plant has the above AF sludge fat and/or soap stock at 29 tons (or 8 K gal) per day in solid basis, the solid fat product can add $ 9 million dollars of value per year for the plant.
This patented process eliminates the problem and adds significant value back to processing plants.
